India is the seventh largest country in
the world with the area of 32,87,593 square
kilometres and the second most populated
country in the world with a population of
about 845 million (1991 census). It stretches
3220 kilometres from North to South and
2980 kilometres from East to West.
Around 83% of the population is Hindu,
and others are 11% Muslim, 2.5% Christians,
2% Sikhs and 1.5% Buddhists, Jains and others.
Hindi is the national language and is spoken
by majority of the population, and there
are 14 other regional languages. English
is spoken all over the country. The country
due to its vastness has varied climatic
conditions, but still can be divided into
three seasons in a year. The Hot (Summer)
from March to June, The Wet (Rainy) from
July to September and the Cool (Winter)
from November to February.
